Kate collaborates with Director Christian Schwochow (The Crown, The Edge of War, The Dispatcher).

‘My casting director and I had to cast a very young leading actress for a major series. After auditions all over Australia, we were left with three actresses. All three were very talented, but had very different qualities. I had the feeling that I needed support to make the right decision. Kate Ellis was recommended to me. After my first meeting with Kate, I realised that I wanted to work with her. Her openness, curiosity and passion for acting are amazing! Kate met with all three actresses, who were aged between 12 and 15 at the time. They worked together on the character without pre-empting my later directing work. In just a few sessions, she was able to build up a relationship of trust with the young women - and recognise and expand their potential. Kate helped me to make the right decision - and stayed involved in the project right through to the shoot. Kate - thanks for the wonderful collaboration!’

WHY TAKE UP COACHING?

Why take up Coaching?

In America, actors seem keen as to talk to ‘class’ and thank their acting coaches in acceptance speeches.

Here in Australia, there is a little more reticence…perhaps a feeling that if you need coaching you’re not good enough???

There are many reasons to take up class or coaching,

Firstly, as eastern martial arts practices would suggest, THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS MASTERY. Ie you can always learn more. Get excited about this prospect. Learning can be fun and it means growth, expansion and experience. You’re truly alive when you’re growing!

Secondly:

ACTING IS FUN right?

Why wouldn’t you want to do it as often as you can? Fun also cultivates a feeling of aliveness…and tops up the tank when other areas of your life might not be as playful, creative, expressive or imaginative.
